April Book Photo Challenge - Day 19 - Merch
I have a hollow book! Isn’t that amazing? I haven’t figured out what I’m going to put in it yet, but trust me, I’ll find something just right. This was a present from my awesome heart-sister Gypsy.
No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world.
We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.

Very excited to read Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor!
April Book Photo Challenge - Day 17 - Over-Hyped
Ok - first - I don’t think the books are awful - so all you twihards just calm down. I did enjoy reading them.
Having said that - I think the books have a lot of problems. The second book pissed me off because I just don’t like the concept of a woman being completely helpless without a man. Then, when she finally starts doing things, it’s a, “lets put my life in danger and see if he notices and comes back!”
I also felt like the fourth book was a major departure stylistically, and while it’s not a style I dislike, I found that disturbing in the last book of a quartet.
Finally, I just think there are so many books that would have been better to capture the hearts and minds of a teenage generation. Still, it did help to create more readers, and I think it helped paved the way for a lot of other YA fiction, both in book form and in movies, which is always a good thing!
tl:dr - The Twilight series had its upsides, I just think it wasn’t as great as many people do.

April Book Photo Challenge - Days 15 & 16 - Quote and Book to Movie
Obviously I haven’t seen the TFIOS movie yet, but I am very excited about it! I think there are some really important messages in this story, and I’m excited that they are going to be shared with a larger audience than just nerdfighters and YA book readers.
This book, and the quote, “Some infinities are bigger than other infinities,” are both very important to me. The full reasoning is complex, but the easy parts to tell you are, first of all, that there are so few books out there that handle serious illness, and handle it in a good way. It’s not a pleasant topic, and it’s a hard one to tackle. When I was a teenager I wish I would have had books like this to help me see that I was not alone, that there were other teenagers going through the same struggles.
Which brings me to my second reason. No, I have never battled cancer, although I did go through it with my brother, but I have lived my life battling one serious illness after another. Some have been chronic and have dogged my steps my entire life. Others have popped up for a season, only to fade away after completely turning my life upside down. I have always been a dreamer, and when I was younger I often dreamed of these grand adventures I would go on when I was older. I did get to go on a few, and for all I know I’ll go on more before my time is done, but I am severely limited by my health conditions. This book never fails to remind me that, even though I may not be able to do everything other people can, I still have lots of possibilities to live a fulfilling life within the bounds set for me.
